GPS – GSM Based Vehicle Tracker Description – Problem Statement


As part of the challenge, the participants have to build a GSM based Vehicle Tracker that will monitor the GPS location of the vehicle that it is installed in and create a geofence for the vehicle.
The GPS – GSM Based Vehicle Tracker should satisfy the following criteria:

  • The GPS – GSM Based Vehicle Tracker should be completely autonomous and be driven by Arduino Uno, an open-source hardware and software platform
  • The GPS – GSM Based Vehicle Tracker should be equipped to record the GPS coordinates of the vehicle it is installed on at regular intervals of, say, 5 minutes
  • The GPS – GSM Based Vehicle Tracker should be equipped to send the GPS coordinates as a text message from a GSM Module with a SIM to a pre-set mobile phone
  • The GPS - GSM based Vehicle Tracker should also be able to create a map with markers based on the location of the Vehicle. The participants can use any third-party application to create the map but the data should be created by the GPS - GSM based Vehicle Tracker and communicated via the GSM module.
  • The GPS - GSM based Vehicle Tracker should create a preset Geo-fence for the Vehicle i.e. the GPS - GSM based Vehicle Tracker should send a distress call to a preset number as soon as the vehicle goes beyond a pre-defined area

Video Submission Criteria

  • The video should have clear demonstration of the project
  • The video should have the participant clearly visible in addition to the project
  • The video should explain the project development in phases (ex: Flowchart)

Kit to be used

  • You should use only Arduino Uno as the Microcontroller/Embedded System core for the project.
  • You should use standalone GPS Modules for finding the GPS coordinates of the vehicle
  • You should use GSM Module and a SIM to communicate the coordinates and make the distress phone call
